During the workshop with museum educator and historian Linda Coombs discussed the history of the colonization of Southern New England. Using primary, Indigenous and other historical sources, the workshop followed colonial impacts from the 15th century into the 21st century as they affected Wampanoag and the other tribal nations in southern New England. Including materials and viewpoints not found in school history books, the workshop highlights American history that has been hidden, omitted, distorted, or erased from general educational processes.
Linda Coombs is a member of the Aquinnah Wampanoag tribe on Martha's Vineyard. She has worked a museum educator at the Boston Children's Museum, the Wampanoag Indigenous Program at Plimoth Plantation, and at the Aquinnah Cultural Center. She is also an interpreter, an artisan, a researcher, a teacher, a children's book author, and expert on various aspects of Wampanoag history and culture.
